I see a lot of ads these days for special kitchen torches for things like Crème Brûlée. In my humble opinion the best kitchen torch is just a regular hardware store torch. They’re cheap, hot, and (for kitchen use) last forever.

I light mine by turning it on and aiming it at the stove burner.
