In which I share with you all what a happy day this is.
This is @sophster and her very special friend Maia when they were in 4th grade.
Here’s another one with Sophia actually smiling.
Maia always takes beautiful pictures with a big smile. Sophia not so much.
Here she is up close.
They are so close they are practically sisters.
They were best buddies from 4th through 6th grade. But they always knew Maia’s family would move away after sixth grade. All the way to Taiwan. They assumed they’d never see each other again.
Finally the fateful day came for Maia to leave. We threw her a surprise party. She cried a lot. And then we said our goodbyes.
Sophia cried for days. She would miss Maia so much. But eventually she made new friends.
And found new ways to entertain herself.
Lots of ways.
So many ways.
But she talked to Maia almost every day on FaceTime. For Christmas she got a huge surprise. She would spend the summer with Maia in France.
They had six weeks together. They went all over France and visited London. They saw Taylor Swift and ate croissants and went to a million museums.
Dressed the part.
Went to Omaha Beach.
Sophia had so much fun. She was sad when it was over.
They began to make plans to see each other again. Sophia hoped Maia could come to Phoenix this summer.
…
Today the doorbell rang and when Sophia went to the door…
…she got a very big surprise…
Sophia hugged everyone, and then she hugged Maia again.
Two weeks of spring break starts Friday and Maia is here!
We’ve been keeping this secret for two months and I was a wreck with excitement all day today. I love my little snowflake and I love Maia. This is a good day. ❤️
