Bridge Over Troubled Water / Johnny Cash
I never liked this song until I heard Cash’s version. Now it moves me deeply. Link
Every Grain of Sand / Emmy Lou Harris
I loved the original but Emmy’s is more haunting. Link
Can’t Help Falling in Love / U2
Sublime take on an otherwise uninteresting song. Link
Clay Pigeons / John Prine
The Blaze Foley original is great. The Prine version is better. Link
Knockin’ on Heavens Door / Dave Grisman and Jerry Garcia
This is probably blasphemy but I never though much of this song until I caught this Grisman/Garcia version on iTunes Radio. Link
My Mexican Home / John Prine
This is a cheat but the original studio release of this song is twangy and forgettable. A rare miss for Prine. But the reworked live version, finally released on the “In Person & On Satge” album is brooding, powerful, and sad and one of my favorites. Link
