Facebook Archive (Page 19)

I created a Facebook account in 2012 but didn’t really post much until 2014. In 2018 I deleted my account (for secret reasons). It was a relief to let it go, but also a little sad. I quickly lost tabs of friends and extended family. Of course we still talk now and again, but I am much less aware of what’s going on in their day to day lives. Nevertheless I’m glad I left.

In an act of unbridled vanity, I have archived all the old posts here.

fivethirtyeight.com is definitely my favorite place to learn a little more about elections, polling, and election history. The other day they lead me to this fascinating thing:

This is new right?

  1. Click a link in Safari that auto-opens a new tab.

538’s “nowcast” now has Arizona blue again. I know voting for president in Arizona seems pointless most years because the outcome is pre-determined, but this is not one of those years. We can participate in sending a clear message that Arizonans do not support trump’s brand of hate. Vote now more than ever.

Clinton should have the Secret Service people stop and frisk trump before she shakes his hand at the debate. Just to be safe.

At the risk of sounding self-congratulatory let me go on the record and say I’m a man, I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms, and I’ve never ever spoken about women that way. Please don’t normalize this.

It may not be entirely uncommon for men to deconstruct women into sexual play things and brag about assaulting them but that’s exactly the point: it should be. #ImWithHer

I’m supposed to be working but I got totally taken in by this article by Michael Chabon about taking his fashion-obsessed son to Paris Fashion Week. I don’t know diddly about fashion and anybody who’s ever seen me dressed knows I definitely don’t care either. But the conclusion here is universal and perfect. I dedicate this reading to my kids.

Not wanting to see Trump elected isn’t really a political stand. It’s a stand for humanity. For decency. Politics don’t even have to enter into it.

A friendly reminder to back up before updating the operating system on your iPhone (or anything else for that matter).

  1. Go to Settings, then tap iCloud.
  2. Tap Backup.
  3. Tap Back Up Now (or note the Last Backup and skip this if it is recent enough for your liking).

It’s hard to argue with this.

We saw “Sully” last night and thought it was good. BUT it suffers from the same problem as essentially every “based on a true story” Hollywood film which is that in the absence of a villain (except some geese I guess) it makes one up. In this case the NTSB. From the New York Times: “In reality, there were no subsequent simulations conducted at Captain Sullenberger’s suggestion. There was no need. Read more…

I feel like George Washington and I would have been buds. How many times have I said I hate the word “tolerance”? In the wise words of my pal George:

It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights.
